Niger - Women and Children Food Security

A mother with a severely malnourished and ill child being transported by a Save The Children vehicle from her village in the rural Maradi region to the Save The Children malnutrition clinic at the Aguie hospital. Located in the Western Sahel, the landlocked country suffers from chronic malnutrition and food insecurity caused by climate related drought and erratic rainy seasons, inadequate arable land, one of the highest demographic growth rates in the world, poor social and sanitary living conditions and widespread poverty. Food insecurity affects children under five and women disproportionately, especially in rural areas. Dourgou, Niger. 16/07/2017.
