Iraqi women waiting to cross the street with their children in front of the Ali Baba Family Restaurant. A small community of Iraqi refugees settled in the San Diego area during the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War. The community has drawn many of the 11,000 Iraqi refugees who have been arriving in the area since 2007 when the United States first began admitting refugees fleeing the conflict in Iraq. Following two tragic wars involving the US and Iraq, Iraqi culture is gradually becoming part of the American landscape. El Cajon, CA. 01/05/2013.
