In the village of al-Abarra, north of Baghdad, there are three families with children born blind. Ataallah Mohammed, a Gulf War veteran who was exposed to heavy bombardment, has four children. His oldest son, born before the war, is perfectly healthy. All three of his younger children, born after the war, are blind.
