Fish drying in the open air on the beaches of Kafountine. Traditional maritime fishing in Casamance and the transformation of fish into smoked, salted and dried products has increased significantly in recent years and plays an important role in the economy of the region. However, the cutting of forests to feed the fish smoking ovens along with the consequences of climate change on the local ecosystem are threatening the traditional way of life and economic activities of the region.
