DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

A woman and her child recently arrived in a temporary settlement for displaced persons in the south eastern province of Katanga. The region has been severely effected by fighting between government forces and Mai Mai militias which has displaced thousands of civilians. Over 1200 people die everyday in the RD Congo, largely due to preventable diseases such as malaria, malnutrition and tuberculosis, a direct consequence of the country's conflict and decades of kleptocratic dictatorship..Kina, Democratic Republic of Congo. 17/06/2006..Photo © J.B.
