Iraq Aftermath
Doctors treat a man with multiple gunshot wounds at the al-Kadisia Hospital in Thora City, formerly known as Saddam City. The neighborhood is a vast slum of 3 million Shiite Muslims, long oppressed and marginalized by the regime. It is a hotbed for the violence and insecurity that has thrived with the absence of authority in the country. The doctors are interns who work for little or no pay under poor conditions with few resourses. They are often threatened and on this night one of their colleagues disappeared from the hospital..Baghdad, Iraq. 06 May 2003..Photo © J.B. Russell
