"Stilt fishermen" in the wreckage of their homes. Many of these traditional and emblematic fishermen of Sri Lanka lost their homes in the 26 December,2004 tsunami. Surprisingly, most of the wooden poles from which they fish off the coast survived. However, the local population have stopped eating fish since seeing large numbers of dead bodies in the ocean following the tsunami. In addition to enormous material damage, fisherman around the country have a hard time selling their catch and earning a living. Koggala, Sri Lanka. 23/01/2005. Photo © J.B. Russell
