SRI LANKA
Many of the traditional and emblematic "stilt fishermen" of Sri Lanka lost their homes in the 26 December, 2004 tsunami. Surprisingly, most of the poles from which they fish off the coast survived. However, many people have stopped eating fish since seeing large numbers of dead bodies in the ocean following the tsunami. In addition to enormous material damage, fisherman around the country have a hard time selling their catch and earning a living. Koggala, Sri Lanka. 22/01/2005. Photo © J.B. Russell
