Senegal River Basin
A woman walks through the market under a sky heavily laden with rain clouds. Life in the Sahel depends on and revolves around the cycles rainy seasons and dry seasons. If the rains fail or are insufficient, crops also fail or harvests are not abundant enough to feed the population during the long dry season months of scorching sun and heat. Climate change has caused prolonged drought and erratic rains across the Sahel in recent years, exacerbating food insecurity and poverty throughout the region.
