DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
A guardian lights lanterns as night falls on a Médecins Sans Frontières medical clinic in the south eastern province of Katanga. The region has no electricity and has been severely affected by fighting between government forces and Mai Mai militias. Over 1200 people die everyday in the DR Congo largely due to preventable diseases such as malaria, malnutrition and tuberculosis.
